Sunbeam Montessori School

Our Philosophy & Purpose

Sunbeam Montessori provides care for children ages one to three years old. I believe in free movement in the classroom, freedom within limits, and an organized natural space. The environment is cozy and inviting with child size furniture and family photos for them to see and feel this is an extension of their own home. All of our materials in the environment promote growth in language, fine motor, gross motor, movement, and play. Our beautiful prepared environment  is rooted in kindness, safety, love, and mutual respect. Together we cultivate an environment that builds each child’s emotional intelligence and practical life skills for them to be their best self!

As a Montessori guide it is my responsibility to observe the children in the prepared environment and meet each child where they are, creating trust and mutual respect. The Montessori method believes that children have an absorbent mind, a period of time where the child effortlessly takes in information and knowledge about their surroundings based on their experiences and the world around them. In our Sunbeam program I  follow the child’s interests and what Dr. Montessori refers to as the child’s sensitive periods, a strong sensitivity towards a specific skill or knowledge such as language, order, movement, and sensorial work. In Montessori we refer to any purposeful activity as the child’s work.
